Project Description
Historic Charm Meets Modern Roofing: New Buckingham Slate Roof and Innovative Modern Upgrades
In a stunning showcase of craftsmanship, a historic home has undergone a remarkable transformation that seamlessly blends modern roofing solutions with its classic architecture. This project highlights two significant areas of improvement: the replacement of a Buckingham Slate roof and enhancements to a front-facing window and second-story flat roof, demonstrating our commitment to quality and innovation.
Buckingham Slate Roof Replacement
The centerpiece of this project was the replacement of the steeply pitched Buckingham Slate roof, which rises three stories high. This challenging installation required the use of scaffolding and a crane due to the height and the close proximity of neighboring homes. Safety was a top priority for The Roofing Company, ensuring that all measures were taken to protect both the crew and the surrounding properties.
To facilitate the installation, a custom-built ridge box was created to hold the slate tiles, providing easy access and organization during the process. The team expertly replaced the old roof with reclaimed Buckingham slate, known for its durability and timeless beauty. Alongside this, new 16 oz copper flashing, GAF Storm Guard HT leak barriers, and an aluminum drip edge were installed, ensuring the roof not only looks stunning but is also equipped to withstand the elements for years to come.
OnDeck System for the Front-Facing Window
In addition to the roof, we focused on enhancing the front-facing window with the OnDeck system, chosen for its exceptional waterproofing capabilities and sleek aesthetic. The installation process included:
- Reinforcing the Structure: New rafters were installed to provide a solid and level base for the OnDeck membrane.
- Replacing Damaged Soffit and Fascia: Pre-primed wood was used to refresh the appearance and ensure long-lasting performance.
- Integrating the OnDeck Membrane: The membrane was carefully cut, glued to the decking, and heat-welded for a watertight seal.
- Adding New Counter Flashing: Dark bronze counter flashing was installed to complement the home's existing features and provide a polished finish.
Fibertite Flat Roof System
For the second-story flat roof, we opted for a Fibertite system, renowned for its durability and longevity. The installation involved:
- Installing New Decking: A layer of 1/2 inch CDX plywood was added to create a smooth and stable surface for the Fibertite membrane.
- Integrating New Gutters: Nordic gutter hangers were seamlessly incorporated to ensure efficient drainage.
- Adding a PVC Fascia and Metal Wrap: This provided a clean, finished look and enhanced weather protection.
The Result
This project beautifully illustrates how modern roofing technology can enhance the charm of a historic home. The combination of the Buckingham Slate roof, OnDeck system, and Fibertite flat roof system provides superior waterproofing and protection, while the carefully chosen materials and meticulous attention to detail ensure a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing result.
As the project concludes, the homeowners can enjoy not only the stunning new roof and window but also the peace of mind that comes from knowing their historic home is well-protected for years to come. The Roofing Company is proud to have played a vital role in preserving the beauty and integrity of this architectural gem, demonstrating our dedication to quality and craftsmanship in every project we undertake.
